We will spend the next several weeks studying the Book of Jeremiah together. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of how God has interacted in the past with his people compared to now.

Week 1 Questions cont.
how would being born during Manasseh's reign and growing up during Josiah's reign have affected Jeremiah and his worldview?
I was in the 4th grade when Kennedy was shot. I watched live, when Oswald was killed by Ruby. I stayed home from school and watched the funeral and John John saluting his father's passing coffin....all of these pictures are forever etched in my memory and make up part of who I am. That same feeling was again experienced as I watched the second plane hit the twin towers. Do these events make up my political worldview...not really...but they definately color the way I look at things. So imagine Jeremiah as a young lad seeing the cleansing of the land that took place under the reign of Josiah. A country that had once promised total loyalty to the one true God had embraced the gods of all the surrounding countries...to the point that there were idols and idol sacrifices taking place in the Temple right next to the ones being performed for Yahweh!!! To see the abomimable and detestable things destroyed and burnt. To see false priests killed and their ashes strewn over the dung heaps. To see the Passover celebrated the way it should be. And then to live long enough to see all the reforms made completely disappear as soon as Josiah is dead. To be so hopeful and then to have your world crash back down into the mud and mire....this had to affect such an emotional man very very deeply.
My passion is the Word of God. It is my desire that through this study we all could come to realize in a more profound way how much God loves us and His desire from the beginning of time was to have a close personal relationship with all of us.
